Volunteer and Non-Profit
I served as President of the Washington State News Council, an independent, nonprofit, statewide organization whose members share a common belief that fair, accurate and balanced news media are vital to our democracy.
I served on the board of Crosscut, with a belief that an informed public is essential to solving the challenges of our time. As the Pacific Northwest’s independent, reader-supported, nonprofit news site, Crosscut strives to provide readers with the facts and analysis they need to intelligently participate in civic discourse, and to create a more just, equitable and sustainable society.
During my years at Microsoft, as part of the annual employee giving campaign, the corporation matched my financial and software contributions to a series on non-profit groups dollar for dollar including the Special Operations Warrior Foundation I feel serve a very important mission. The Special Operations Warrior Foundation ensures full scholarship grants as well as educational and family counseling to the surviving children of Army, Navy, Air Force and Marine Corps special operations personnel who lose their lives in the line of duty and immediate financial assistance for severely wounded special operations personnel and their families.
I serve as an adviser to the Internet and the E-Voter Institute. E-Voter Institute is the only non-partisan organization with the express mission of promoting the use of online tools in political and advocacy campaigns. Founded in 1999, the Institute has conducted original research on voters and political consultants, organized conferences and webinars with industry experts, published two books on the subject of the convergence of politics and the internet and since 2007, produced the weekly web radio show Digital Politics Radio
During my time as treasurer of the Gasworks Park Marina Home Owners Association in Seattle, I was responsible for keeping the budget, not the boats, afloat.
Beginning in 2014 I began volunteering in my community to help support local government, organizations and athletics including: Issaquah Economic Vitality Commission, Issaquah Downtown Task Force, Issaquah Skateboard Park Project, Issaquah Youth Lacrosse Coach.
